Well i had to get there in the end...i cut the blank 3mm over size and used a disc sander to trim and to true i did as suggested and turned my barrel trimmer into a sanding disc20160323_163954.jpg
The client asked if i could make a curly maple, a dark blue and this one so he could choose which looked better in the flesh...he still couldn't decide so took all 3:thumbs:

Never seen the kit in my hand but I like it and your methods sure overcxame your problems trimming etc well done Mark. From advice given to following and proving it was the right way to go. Benefits of the forum.

That's a success to be proud of. Inlace is very difficult to turn. Over the years, I've only had a couple successes with it. The last time, I used 100 grit dry to shape it.
