Pressure of work has kept me away from the forum and from my lathe for a while. However, I managed to turn some pens for a commission. The brief was that the kit must be rhodium and the blank must be blue, so I made a couple of pens from dark blue pearl acrylic and one from dyed stabilized box elder burr. Two of the kits are Artisan European twist pens and the other is a Jr. Gentleman. The inclusion of the refills in the photos was to show the customer which pens take which refills and help him make an informed choice.

Three very nice looking pens there, nice lustre in the two plainish blue ones but I think my favorite is the patterned one :thumbs:

Absolutely fantastic fits and finishes. The acrylic looks glorious but the box elder is stunning - I love it.

Where do you get the box elder blanks?

The box elder burr blank came from Craft Supplies USA, Stewart. I was a bit disappointed with the appearance of it when it arrived, but then I turned and polished it and my disappointment vanished!

Incidentally, the customer chose the Jr. Gentleman in deep blue acrylic, which made me happy because it means I get to keep the box elder Artisan European pen (for the moment, at least). I might even keep it permanently because I really like it.

I think I have partly answered my own question on the internet I have for days now followed claims in mileage of writing years of use etc the main contenders for super and simply the best seem to come down to made in Switzerland I refer to refill shapes and capacity also availability. Yesterday for pens I can afford to misplace or lose I chose BIC Cristal Xtra life writes over 2 kilometres ten for 4.50 Au. I note with interest our dealers on this forum choose refills from Switzerland as well. I believe you addressed in making the three pens choice with variety completed by real information we are all interested in whats under the bonnet after all. So well done mate. No such thing as just a pen.

Peter.
