Hi everyone, I've been loitering on the forum for while now and decided to post my make may first post with some pics of my first attempt at pen (or in this case pencil) turning. Looking forward to doing many more!

Looks great for a first attempt Ian,

All looks good, just looks like a little reelection of the tube showing through at the nib end but as the walls are quite thick on that pencil kit it doesn't detract from the quality of finish.

If you haven't already painted the tubes You will need to think about painting them when you do one with thinner walls as the tube might just show through.

Otherwise a spot on first attempt, wished mine was as good as that.

Keep it up and look forward to seeing a few more, don't leave it so long next time.:rolling:

Welcome to the mad house Ian. That's an excellent first attempt. Nicely turned and finished

As Eamonn says, yes the tube is just showing at the nib end, but hey it is your first pen can't expect perfection

Hi Ian - welcome to the fold. I detect that although you may not have turned pens before, you possibly are already friends with your lathe. You have achieved a good fit and finish on your first pencil, which if you've never turned anything at all before, is even more praise worthy. Looking forward to the second one.

Thanks to all for the comments and advice Re painting the brass tube - what sort of paint is best for this?

I've been turning for a while now, but only now have decided to give pens a go.

I'm looking to do a nice quality fountain pen and would appropriate any recommendations for a good kit.

Thanks
Ian

At the risk if blowing my own trumpet Ian, have a look at the Mistral kits from Beaufort Ink.
