My first attempt using' Thuya Burr ' was warned of the pit-falls by the kind donator of the blanks. (Shed Hermit)
Keep tools really sharp and take your time, bloody good advice and I finally got there. :phew:

Opinions greatly received.

Fabulous looking finish on that.

Is it particularly tricky to turn then?

Phil,

It is hard to turn, not in hardness but in that you have to be very delicate as it will crack, bits just fly off if you are not careful. The finish is 20 coats of Thin CA which makes it worth while I think, the depth of shine and the look of the burr is amazing. I am now looking at Ebay for unusual wood to turn. It really gets the turning juices going...

Thanks for that, beyond my skills just yet then I think.

I've just come off ebay, there's some fabulous blanks on there from Aus, it was getting to be like wood porn, I can't take too much of it at my age :funny:

I did manage to "steal" 6 American Black walnut blanks the other day for 1.40 for all 6, felt like theft to be honest, but they are nice

Got Red Mallee burl, brown mallee burl to do this weekend so looking forward to those.

After turning the Thuya Burr, you are now talking dirty.
Now I am checking Ebay for a good bit of wood......:funny:
