Remember this wood? Well i haven’t made a slimline since last October so i thought i would make up a few today, this being one of them .. On a Gold plated Slimline, Blackwood C/B and given a friction polish finish .. The wood smells real bad, and is very grainy if this can help with its identification .. :nooidea:

Like your pens Jim smelly as old oranges in a schoolbag after the summer vacation or downright ugly smell of Walnut it al fades after finishing thankfully.the powerful smell of Huon Pine is overpowering enabling the tree to be thousands of years old, from Woodies nothing would compare to the dockyard dog smell of the description Woody refers to entirely environment.

The relief of the centre band you have made yours by now dignifies this pen.

When I cut up some white mahogany it was very smelly Jim and looked very similar to that, almost orange in colour. Its actually a member of the Eucalyptus family and as soon as I knew what it was I could smell that distinctive eucalyptus smell.

Lovely job. I do like the contrasting centre band, it is something I will try, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Paul, funny you should say that, the Lady that gave me it said she thought it was Oak, but i thought, yeah .. I took no notice of course .. But when turning it the it did cross my mind what she said, but the smell kept telling me that it wasn't .. Now you say this, ehmm i may have to eat humble pie .. :whistling:
