I have just found and joined this forum after Googling around about pen making. I have always had an interest and collected fountain pens, so the idea of making pens of a unique nature is very appealing. I found this place whilst looking for a lathe but it seems a bit of a minefield out there. I want something as compact as I can as space is a premium. I am leaning towards an Axminster at the moment. Anyway I will probably start a thread in the appropriate place asking something similar.

Hi and welcome Robbie. Nutters every one of them but they know a lot as well, all you have to do is catch them on a good day after they have had their meds:banana::banana::banana:

Or even welcome from "RAINY" Manchester, where it is persisting it down :rolling:

Whareabouts in Cumbria are you? G & S Specialist Timber at Stainton have Jet lathes in their showroom
Having said that I have a small Axi

I am down in Ulverston, not too far from Stainton which I think is near Penrith. I might be visiting Axminster shop in Warrington tomorrow if I can convince "she who must be obeyed" that we need a lathe :whistling:

Hello Robbie, welcome. Pop some questions up, don't be shy. Very helpful lot on here. My advice is don't discount second-hand stuff, your money will go further and you can have more money for all the other things you didn't realise you will need.

Show us some pics of your nice pens if you like, hint, hint
