I was thinking of trying these mills but I'm struggling to find any instructions or tutorials on how to make them. I've had a look on YouTube but only found two, a speeded up film that I was none the wiser for and one where the person doing it didn't speak a word. Any clues on where to find instructions or would anyone like the challenge of making a tutorial? :thinks:

I think you need 3 or 4 large forstner bits

Steve

Steve, if you watch the video that Jim linked to he just uses one 1" bit and forms the recess at the bottom of the mill, that would be done with the larger forstner bit, with a skew or a parting tool. The kits I've looked at are held in place by screws and the one that Carl does in the video you linked to he glues the mechanism in place so it must be a different kit to the ones available elsewhere :thinks:

I've got a much better idea of what to do now thanks to you and everyone else who provided info. If anyone wants any forstner bits by the way, have a word with Turners Retreat. They have boxes of them they bring out on the open days for £3 each

Keith Fenton demonstrated how to make crush grind mills at our club a few months back that was very interesting. Here is the handout he gave us.
