There is a guy in Staffordshire selling African blackwood logs as well as squares ... Here is a list of wht he is selling ... The logs are £7 per kilo most of them are 2-3 kg with some larger ones. The blanks are not priced yet, but will answer all emails ... woodwiseuk@yahoo.co.uk

It is tough wood, and very black, thou you can get pieces with the sap still in the wood which can look good on a pen, even better using it for segmenting and center bands .. :ciggrin:

Cheap as Chips IMHO far better and ten times more reliable to use than African Ebony. Ebony without the splits, love small branches for character I have never seen it that cheap. Go for it.

Blackwood looks a lot like ebony, but is not as prone to splitting or cracking. Real ebony can be very tricky to make into a pen. If it is not ABSOLUTELY dry, it may split or crack months after making it into a pen. I use it mostly for segmenting. Blackwood is not quite as deep a black as ebony, but is easier to turn.
