Wood too dry?

I bought a Poplar burr from someone who was giving up woodturning

Tried to turn it today - it is the driest piece of wood I've come across. I don't know if it was oven dried but this thing is like a biscuit.

The wood is tearing even using very sharp tools, light cuts and trying different speeds.

Any suggestions on how to turn this biscuit?

It is 8" diameter by 4.5" deep

It may help as well if you give it a light spray with water now and again as you remove wood
