Pippy yew, 7 1/2 " dia 1 1/4" thick.

I'm not really sure what happened with this to be honest, what I ended up with wasn't what I had in my head to start with, but somehow it just seemed as though the wood wanted to end up this shape.

Sanding sealer and paste wax finished.

You've done well there Phill, Yew isn't the easiest to turn as big pieces tend to have very hard heart wood

Phil you have certainly excelled yourself there mate that is one beautiful PLATTER mate very often it is better to let the wood tell you what it wants to be its good to have an idea what you want to make but dont be determined to destroy it just because your to stubborn to see what is really inside

Thanks all for the kind words , that's the first bowl I've done with the "proper" tool.

I had some fun trying to get the hang of the "keeping the bevel on" thing with the bowl gouge. I'm really happy with the overall result though, the good news is I've got three more bits of this as well.

I love the character in the wood.
