Hi, matey,

Laburnum is a lovely wood to turn green but cracks like blazes! Ideal if you are making zany mushrooms where cracks add features - but no good for a bowl!!!

My suggestion is - if you've got some good stuff then allow it to season for a wonderful grained bowl!

Bob.

With any wood you turn wet there is always the chance it will split but there are several things you can do that may limit splitting one you can part turn it leaving the walls quite thick and even if the base is thicker than the walls then chances are it will split then weigh it and store it till the weight is stable then return it to the lathe and finish turning it
Two turn it very thin and again an even thickness all over walls and the base when finished a good soaking with oil and keep it in the same environment don't take it indoors were it is warm till it has dried out but beware it will change shape I still have a Laburnum Vase turned this way and it has remained in one lump with no splits or bad distortion
