A colleague has a cedar which fell over in the winds the other night, now this thing is huge but she has some smaller bits that I can put my hands on if I want it. She's had it "logged" by a local tree surgeon. Some of it is 20+ inched diameter, but there's some limbs in the 4 - 8 inch range which I could handle.

So, do I want it ?

What the heck do I do with it if I get some. How to best dry it etc?

If you have the ability to plank it, then cedar is a good wood that has a natural oil to preserve itself. plank it (hire a woodmiser) and then cut it into 1" thick boards, tongue and grove it and make a shed.

or burn it on the fire.

or shingles for the shed roof.

Sorry, that's all I can offer.

I have turned some nice bowls and vases from Cedar which is quite a soft wood to turn and it takes a nice finish but depending how long it has been down and the sizes it could take a few years to dry or you could try turning it wet which is a wonderful experience in its self which to me is always worthwhile and it is a good wood to practice with

Cheers guys, looks like I'll take the opportunity to grab some then.

Practice wood is always welcome I suppose, never having done any wet wood.
