Well am at 1000 posts, so thought I'd celebrate with something I've been wanting to do for a while and thanks to Doug I could.

Horse Chestnut burr, approx 5 inch dia, 5 inch high at highest point. Finished with first coat Tung Oil. Left thick wall so as to best (my opinion) show off the weird burr form, hollowed using the new Sorby Multi Tip, good bit of kit.

Fabulous piece of wood, an enjoyable morning and a very big thank you to Doug !

Lovely piece of work Phill. You have certainly progressed since our open day at Woody's !!!!!

7 months ago I did my first pen, I guess I've moved along a little bit.

I have to thank a lot of people on here for the inspiration and encouragement, with a special thanks to Woody for the tuition as well.

It's a great place to be, amongst a whole new bunch of mates.

That is a stunning piece of wood, well done  which Sorby hollowing tool do you have?

I got the Rs200 Woodturning - Hollowing tools from Robert Sorby which is fine for what I want right now, I think if you wanted to do complex stuff then you'd need something more specialised like the swan neck ones.

Saw the Simon Hope ones at Dougs and I think that's what I'll go for when the time comes, nice tools

I am amazed Phil your turned piece is sensational ticks all the boxes and has been said a fitting 1000 poster.

The piece as you look in simply bursts with colour and that edge is beautifully preserved.
