Our Paul sent me a box full of wood and this is one of the logs so of I went this morning intending to make some pens but no.
I think it may be Thatchers cider wood as it was quite a hard wood and fantastic to turn like all fruit woods I also think may be one of the bits of wood he boiled so thank you Paul I loved turning it a real joy one photo the bowl is sitting in some of its own shavings fantastic long ribbon shavings some from fast aggressive remove and some fine from finishing cuts I have given it a polish finish now lets try and make some pens
One of the logs has a split in it so I have ordered some leather boot laces to stitch it up after I will do that one some time in the week when the laces arrive

Thats a lovely bowl Woody, I cut it down about 14 months ago and its been in my shed ever since drying out. This is one of the first blanks I experimented with pre-boil days, just taking it into the shed, 7/10ths of them split badly and there were just a few left. Its not Apple as I don't have any Thatchers that thick, it must be Ash.

The mistake I made on the blanks drying them out in the shed was when waxing them, I waxed around the edge as per blanks I'd bought... but the cut is different on those and I should have waxed the ends. Ah well you live and learn.
