Had problems with my PC over the last few weeks, nothing seemed to work to rectify the problem, I had wound the system back to various old recovery points, uninstalled all sorts of stuff you collect on your hard drive over the years. :thinks:

Nothing seemed to work and it was getting worse by the day. :vangry::vangry:

Yesterday I bit the bullet, got rid of everything, re-formatted the hard drive, and reloaded windows :sob::sob:

Its like having a new PC :love_it::love_it:

Now loading various programs back on so far so good.:banana::banana:

Media & all that sort of stuff on one hard drive,Operating system on a small 32gb SSD and programs on another 128gb SSD,usually only have to loose my programs if something goes wrong.

Nothing beats regular copies stored elsewhere though :bwink:

Should be done on a regular basis if you want windows to work. Every other day should just about be regular enough.

That's windows for you and I bet it will get worse now that MS is not supporting some versions! I use win 7 on my laptop and use Linux on a spare one and find Linux much nicer! But whatever you use is not much good without backups in a different place!:rolling:

My Windows has actually been OK :nooidea: Boot up in 10secs but TBH I don't have a lot of programs on it,I don't even have word :thinks:

Restart it once a week and run the defrag programs on auto schedule.

Pleased it's sorted Billy. It's all been said about backups but I should know better and still get lazy at times.

I format my HDD at least once a year, quicker than trying to sort problems as takes the machine back to new.
First thing I did with my current laptop was dump win8 and all the preloaded dross before installing win7 and the software I need.

Bob

ps ...must back up my files:thinks:... maybe tomorrow:funny:

I just got sick & tired of windows, I know very little about computers & if I'm honest didn't believe the hype surrounding Apple but I have to admit since getting this Ipad 6 months ago I've only turned the laptop on a few times to get old photos off it, each time I boot it up it reinforces my view that I would definitely never go back to windows.

Gotta admit Doug, since I got my tablet (Android) I cant believe how much I use it, great for surfing the web, personal emails, Facebook etc. but I could never be without my pc/laptop need it for building websites and Photoshop and a few more programs that just cant be done on a tablet. :thinks::thinks::thinks:

Dont go defragging an SSD Matty, there is no need at all, defragging is detrimental to an SSD. The have a finite number of rewrites and you are using them up pretty quick by defragging.

The point of defragging is to put linked clusters together, with a seek time of maybe 20ms this has a definite advantage in a mechanical drive but in an SSD with a seek time of less than 0.1 ms it really serves no purpose other than reach that finite amount quicker.

I've been amazed by the apps I can get that have made my laptop obsolete, whilst I admit I didnt use it anywhere near as much as you would, but with just the numbers app I've been able to submit my years books via email straight from my ipad to the accountant
