Ok we now have a serious competition ... The selected winner will receive a Marksman EAGLE Rollerball Pen Kit seen in the picture below ...

http://www.penturners.co.uk/misc/images/1/markmans_pen_kit.jpg

All that needs to be done for this competition is to make a Slimline pen in any style you wish, all that is asked is that you use two different woods or other materials, a combination will be fine.

This competition will run up to Sunday 26th May, which then the top five nominations will go into a poll where the winner will be selected by members who will vote for their favourite pen.

To enter this competition you will have to post a picture of your pen in the selected forum. Like other attempted competitions each member will have one Nomination, use this wisely.. The top five nominations will then go into the Poll. The Poll will run from Sunday 26th May through to Friday 31st May...

The competition is open to members with 25 posts or over ...

Just to add that i will also send out to the winner the bushings for this pen on the proviso that they return them back to me when they have turned the pen. This offer is optional; so if you do not need the bushings then please say so at the end of the competition.

Ooh, I don't usually do slimlines but for that bit of pen-porn i'll bend the rule. Is a 'fancy' okay, Jim? It's that or a slimline pencil for me ...

Does this qualify Jim as you know I am away from my dearest Ethal (pet name for my Lathe) you will also know from my previous posts that I don't like bullet pens.
However they are plentiful here and are a convenient tube for pen projects, I don't suppose I will win anything with this picture but will endeavor to get someone with a camera instead of my phone.
It is constructed from a slimline kit with a nondescript center band from spares box, 2 x shell cases and a cartridge with primer removed so a combination of two killers for materials.
I used rubber o-rings as spacers to center all the gubbins and grip the transmission.
Nothing to report on the superglue front, all very uneventful i am afraid on this occasion.
That is until i came to take my boots off, how did I manage to get the bloody stuff inside my boot and stick my sock to the boot and my foot its 40 degrees C here and dries instantly.
Ah well I am not telling anybody about this one so soon after sticking a lady to the handrail on the stairs, it wont be the first time I have slept with my boots on maybe the sweat will unstick it in time.
Makes it awkward polishing them though.

My effort today.
I spent some time with a local turner "Ozwaldo" who can show us a thing or two, he makes all the bowls for all the Hotels in the area plus all other turning I think he is the only one locally and wow does he do some work.
he won't let me picture him or his work as he believes it is bad luck and you capture the spirit of the item in the camera, a real antiquated village mentality but I won't antagonize him as I am learning so much from him.
Hell i did this piece on a treadle lathe. My first successful -ish segmented piece cut by hand in a mitre block. The light wood is Lemon tree, the dark wood unknown from a cast off in the bin.
I had no mandrel so its a one piece slimline with 2 different woods. The tool i used was better suited to digging trenches but it did the job of a fashion. Finished with god only knows what was in the pot but it stank like an old polecat and dried in seconds.
I had so much fun showing him how to turn a pen he couldn't believe I would take so much trouble over such a item.

How this works is when the competition ends on the 26th, the top 5 nominees will automatically go into a Poll. The Poll will stay open until next week, we will all then vote on the pen that we believe should win the prize ... :bwink:

Hope this helps ...

Here's today's offering, I was so taken with a post yesterday with a pencil that had a knot in it.
I want my own knot so I stopped whilst out running this morning at the farmers woodpile to look for something suitable.
I didn't have a clue what I was looking at but did see an old fence panel with what looked ideal for my pen.
Here is my knotty slimline on a titanium black kit with African black wood insets finished with ca.
Purposely left fat to show the knot at its best and no center band made as a one piece twist.

That is a nice pen George, that knot is something special. I love the style ...

Cheers Jim I enjoyed doing this one too. I t takes a bit more skill to get the knot turned down in softwood with the blackwood being one of the hardest woods I have turned.
The first one blew out about half way through so A bit more care second time around Otherwise there would have been a pair of these.

I agree with Jim about the knot mate, you have used its full potential.

There is nothing in the 1st post about this Frankie, unfortunately it has been missed .. It is hard to make a ruling on the last day of the competition so for this one it will have to run as is... Sorry!! :nooidea:

OOOhhh Ruffled feathers is it?
Surely the whole idea of the competition is to get us all turning slimlines for it. It was mentioned earlier if anyone could be bothered to read.
Had I not been away there would have been a lot more entries from me..
Only one vote though which I have used.

HEHE all in good fun

Nothing ruffled at all I thought it was one entry each as most comps are but as Jim said it was an oversite so we just get on with it good luck to all entrants .Frankie.

Peter, this is taken from the first post of this thread ...

This competition has now closed ...

The next competition starts on June 1st which you are more than welcome to join, so you can slow down a little now as you can see you have plenty of time before the next one starts ...

Here is the link regarding June's competition .. http://www.penturners.co.uk/penturners-competition-forum/749-ideas-next-competion.html#post7054

Hope this Helps ... :bwink:
