Pull the copper from the wire leaving a

Now feed the wire through the hole in the bead
if it is a loose fit bend and feed it back into the hole
and gently pull it in to tighten.]
With the larger wire I flare the end to make it tighter once
pulled i use a panel pin hammered in to the hole to exspand the wire in the bead if required and there you go.

What type of wire are you using? would thick fuse wire do

Any wire will give the friction you require to burn a line.
From fuse wire to welding rod or a piece of Formica is often used.
The wire I have on the Jnr hacksaw is nickel chrome wire used in heating elements so higher resistance to the heat generated.
PM your address and I'll send you a couple of metres to keep you gong for ages init?

This a great thread.

As Phil indicated I use guitar strings. My nephew plays in a band and I get all his strings. One set of strings will get you 2 sets of wire burners. I start with a piece of construction timber and bamboo skewers. Drill 2 holes smaller than the bamboo. Skew practice to round the handles. I sand a cone shape on the ends and pre cut the bamboo into pegs. Thread the wire through the holes and drive the pegs in place. Be careful the end of the wire doesn't extend out of the hole.

I use picture wire and use toggle like handles like TerryQ, not that I have used it more than twice.
