Well back making sawdust and swarf today after almost two weeks of pure admin type stuff

Anyhow been able to "move along" on a project that I 've been working on with JimJam66, Dave Deakin for those who know him. Anyhow I reckon I've now settled on a design for displaying pens in two sizes... 4 or 6 pens . Hopefully Dave will be able to CNC these and then we can offer them for sale at a reasonable price in Ply, Acrylic or Aluminium. The purpose of this post is to seek expressions of interest in such an item.

So Guys let me know I'll post some pics tomorrow

Hi All,

I'm posting a couple of pictures of the Flatpax 4ps pen stand. This is a layout prototype and the finish is not really that good owing too too much dust when it was sprayed. The intention is that these will be supplied unfinished for home finishing. I intend them to be made available in acrylic aluminium and marine ply. A six way stand will also be available.
The central riser is drilled and threaded and the base and cradle are simply bolted to it with countersunk philips head bolts.

Flatpax is a range of pen turners boxes and display stands designed by Franchini Pen Company for self assembly and finishing by the turner.

What I need to do is get some info from you guys as to preferences....... particularly what material is favoured either Polished aluminium, clear maybe tinted acrylic or ply. I also need some ideas of quantities....... in terms of materials etc. It may seem a bit backward but what price is acceptable to buyers? This will help me to decide how best to produce the items

Personal preference only but I think either polished or brushed ally for my taste.
I would fear that I would overtighten ply and pull through the hole.
That acrylic or any other plastic would distort given certain temerature changes, I know that may seen extreme but my speaker pods melted on my parcel shelf yesterday and I couldn't get the football results.
You may also look upon this as repeat business and only make them in plastic.:bwink:

this design is restricted by the crescent shape but i will do straight ones for up to 15 pens. This will require two supports but it's not a problem

Yep 7mm clear acrylic seems right should be able to do them for £9 -£12.00........ curiously the acrylic is more expensive than the aluminium and also requires more finishing e.g heat polishing the edges. I'll try and talk with David through the week.

The aluminium option will be more bespoke as its capable of any finish anodised, plated, mirror polished etc these would be in 3- 5mm aluminium bar.

Just to remember that there are products similar to this already out there! So price is going to be a big factor. I am not trying to be negative here just stating what i feel my be against you. I would also like to see all of you finished projects.
