Hi Guys, I want to try (try being the operative word here) gluing acrylic sheets, 4 colours, Navy, yellow, green and red to build up a blank to give a hooped pattern when turned (it's a long story) Suggestions for which glue to give no colour bleed and minimum glue line.

Cheers

Hello Tim, and welcome to the forums. I have made many pens segmenting Corian and used nothing but medium CA, i have had no issues with this and the witness mark of the glue is minimum. You can try the Super Thin CA for even better results but you will have to be very quick lining up the pieces as it goes off very fast.

Not sure I'd use acetone OR solvent cement for this application, Mark. As their name implies, they actually melt the acrylic they come into contact with, so I can't see how you'd avoid some colour bleed ... ?:nooidea:

A warm welcome wobbly I can say stay away from Acetone unless your wear protection and by that I mean a spaceman's suit.
And make sure you only use a small amount, take what you need and put the lid immediately back on the container.
Mind you not everyone is like me and had a disaster with a 5 gallon drum, least said soonest mended as they say in Calcutta.

Dont get too hung up about acetone, its also called nail varnish remover! But its not a good idea to drink it or expose yourself longer then is necessary. About a year ago there was an article in Woodturning magazine about a guy who set out n a quest to tuen a bowl from sheets of acrylic. From memory the problems that he had all centred around the type of glue, he managed to find a specialist glue manufacturer who advised him and from there on success. Havent a clue when the article was, who wrote it, what the glue was or where he got it from so all in all I'm about as much help as a chocolate tea pot.

If memory serves me right, CA glue didn't work because it didnt get a consistent bond and it made the blank blow out, but then again I could be wrong. I'd suggest googling a specialist glue manufacturer and give them a call.
