It's Walters' fault!

I'd promised myself a couple of hours to just poddle about in the workshop today.
I was just about to go in, when Walter posted his one piece pen. I've never made one of these before, so thought I'd give it a go.

These things are bl##dy addictive!

Coloured Sycamore Burr, cross cut Olive, and Pissards purple Plum. (yes that is its real name!)

The Olive blank was a gnats short, so I took the tube back a bit. Played around with the shapes a bit as well.

Sycamore is my favourite Neil but they're all very nice. I'm starting to love this colouring malarky and only a few weeks ago I was a virgin.

The beauty of the one piece is playing about and experimenting with shapes.
Very nice Neil.

Lovely pens. I have a question. I assume you expose the tip by grabbing the clip and twisting. Wont that wear a groove in the pen where the ball of the clip meets the pen?

No, you hold the nib and twist the body of the pen.

OK then, where can I get some Pissards?

Walters' garden!:funny::funny:

I can't imagine that it is widely available. It is one of those woods that starts to star shake within minutes of being cut.
I managed to cut a few blanks from some split logs in the wood shed.
The only way I have managed to get usable blanks, is to let it split and season, then cut between the split areas.
You then have to seal the whole blank, or it will start splitting again! It looks a very stunning purple with light streaks when sealed, but turns to a disappointing lighter colour.
Not really worth the effort unless you really want to pun on the name!:funny::funny:

Paulm's boiling process might work well, but you would have to be quick to get it in the pot:thinks:
