Well China or Japan actually but via OZ.
Bought this chopping board for $49 AUD in Sydney and was the only wood I dared to take through customs but it's very unusual, wish I'd bought more.
It's bamboo but I haven't seen it manufactured this way and the X cut blanks especially look interesting.

X cut bamboo makes some stunning pens, I am looking forward to seeing these.
Lovely effect the camera can't do justice to, tough on tools keep them very sharp all the way through.
Have you done them yet?
Hurry up init?

Have seen solid wood flooring like this on ebay only reason I didn't buy it was bloody expensive.
Just been on ebay Emperor Solid Tigerwood Bamboo Flooring Strandwoven Wood Floor silkwood 142TIG | eBay

That's an interesting link John. It's a shame it's only 14mm thick (mine is amost 20mm) but I note the width of the flooring is 142mm They say the sample is "hand size" so I'd assume they cut the samples across and you would get around 3 or 4 slimline blanks out of it, so 99p / free post seems worth a look.

The hardwood flooring sellers often give out free samples so I'll be calling whenever I pass any in future>
