Some of the wood from Thatchers Cider Trees is a little bit boring and while there is grain in it, it doesn't show usually. This time I just added the smallest of small amounts of green dye to some thinners and applied one coat. What a difference it makes.

Looks as though the colouring works as good on the Thatchers as it does on the Sycamore Paul, very nice pen indeed ..

I have a heap of guitar offcuts from the States with all kinds of figure it needs contrast so i will in time give this a nudge.

Your adjancy ( new word) to unlimited Thatcher material has yielded such a neat pen thanks to the dye difference.

You must be related to St George just jousting looks fun to play with dyes, cauldrons eyes of newts.

Just ventured out in the cool morning to my stash and yes it reminds me of Lignum Vitae with a totally different grain, very interesting.

Thanks Paul while I was in the workshop I found missing large bolts I need later on as well.

Have dye will play. Peter.:thumbs:

Definitely worth the effort Paul. I'd never have considered green though I have used some dark wax then wiped off and it stayed in the open oak grain. A pen and pencil set and coincidentally just sold them yesterday.
