Personally I am not keen on pre-tubed blanks, I know some people prefer this method. Also if the tube is for a specific pen it will probably be almost to size leaving little to turn or it may only need a polish.

On the other hand it looks like you could produce 16 pens in very little time and save on the cost of resin.

I doubt it would be something I would purchase since I don't produce pens to sell on-mass (yet?)

That is Jim Pratt in the states. Reports so far are that it is pretty good, so I hear. The only thing that occurs to me is that there are running costs involves, in that the tubes themselves are single use as I understand it. Therefore you will need to keep replenishing them - from the sates.

I know it has patent pending but no doubt at all that anyone with only a modicum of skill could very easily reproduce something similar to that. I certainly would have no problem whatsoever!

The tubes are easy as long as you can live without them being transparent ( and I bet they could be sourced anyway). What immediately comes to mind is 22mm rigid plastic (solvent weld type) overflow pipe available cheaply in 3 mtr lengths from plumbers merchants.

Just looked and you can buy 10 lengths for £13.40 from Screwfix - that's a lot of pen blank tubes, say 20+ per length so maybe 250? FloPlast Overflow Waste Pipe White 21.5mm x 3m 10 Pack | Overflow Waste System | Screwfix.com

I have bought 20 and 25mm clear tube and it was pretty cheap. http://www.plastock.co.uk/polycarbonate-extruded-clear-tube

Hi All

been a while but I'm still here.

When i cast I use 25mm plastic pipe, fit an old latex glove over the bottom with a rubber band, pour the resin, vacuum and then bang it out with a bit of doweling, the tube is reusable that way.

In every way and day I call this a way to cast that appeals more than most I would love to see the pens made using these castmethods.
