Hi all,

I am very new to turning having only started last year apart from an introductory woodworking class in school 40 odd years ago.

I'm semi retired and thought wood turning would be a good way to keep me busy and cut down my smoking .......... it has done both but I think I have a new addiction! B)

I only started turning pens a couple of months ago, as I was given a pen mandrel and It seems, that is all I am doing at the moment now, my personal choice of we2apon for this being the skew as I find it the best for the job.

I am a member of my local wood turning club "Ancient oaks" and since joining about 6 months ago have learned a huge amount taking me from just making a lot of mess to things I am proud to give to family members and friends, but I still have a long way to go.
DSC_0058.jpg these are a few of my pens, I am always looking to experiment and see the results

Hi Andy - welcome aboard. It looks like you are well under way on the pen front. You'll soon come to realise that the fags were cheaper than the cure.

Welcome come on in and enjoy the banter. You will never stop learning.

Now that you have cut down stopped smoking all that money can disappear into the shed on gadgets you know you want them it makes sense.

Seriously don't just buy something look to see if you really want it as the hobby can cost a little but at least you will have something to show for it. And always remember any free wood is a bonus let family and friends know as well as get to know the sound of a chainsaw at 50 paces more if the hearing is good:wink:
Ask as many questions as you want.
Good looking pens as a starter

Welcome Andy to your new addiction.
You can’t ask a stupid question on this forum,
If in doubt ask. You will get a lot of support.

Welcome Andy, your first showing proves you are a good learner in a short time. As a 60 a day smoker until 1962 from age 15 I know the difference. Smoking stunts your growth,I am 6 foot 2 inches.

Real progress in woodwork comes with membership of a local Woodturning Group as you have.

Enjoy the forum,I loved my introduction to timber working 74 yrs ago in Primary School then a few years in High School. Pens remain as my passion.

Peter.

White coats and black vans is what you'll have to look forward to.:ave_it:

Otherwise WELCOME to the nuthouse my friend.
