Hello everyone, my name is Dave Robertson(although being married for 38 years I answer to most things :)). I have an incredibly vast knowledge of turning in general having started this a whole 7 months ago. I have a well developed sense of humour, although some people say I am a sarcastic sod....perish the thought. I have managed to make a couple of semi decent pieces in this time and now am moving onto massacaring pens. Tried two and made a mess of both so I am 100% consistent to date. Know what I did wrong each time, first one was when I thought "oh that is developing a nice shine, turned out to mean that I had removed the wood and was down to the brass level". Second time was even more stupid, I tried to put the pen together the wrong way and for some reason it broke!
So, for the next year my plans are pens, goblets, Christmas decorations, a drum kit on a stand and best of all a coffee table (full size). The last one was a result a burr wych elm planter that I made as part of my wife's presents. She liked it and then said do you know what this needs...teach me, next year I'll get her an ovenglove. Well that is me in a nutshell hoping to pick your combined experiences to assist me in becoming competent at making pens. Dave R

Welcome David. You will find that on here we all share your pain. Hopefully however you will find that help is at hand and we can assist in saving that endangered species the pen kit of Fife.

Nice to see you here David. The only way is up!!
As my very wise grandad one said to me long ago, it's better to ask a silly question than to do a silly thing.

Welcome aboard David. You’ll enjoy being on here & you can learn loads from these lads. Look how far I’ve advanced since joining the forum. I think I’ve now mastered the skew.
