    New member say hello

    Hello everyone

I am new to turning, i have always enjoyed playing around making things with wood and when a lathe came up on a local selling site i thought why not, i have been practising and learning using a dvd that came with the lathe of jimmy clewes and youtube, i have tried a couple of pens and find i quite enjoy it, relatively quick to do so i don't upset the other half by disappearing into my workshop for hours on end, i have tried enrolling on a coarse at the local community centre but they are booked up, so looks like im going to have to learn the hard way and make mistakes, any hints tips and advice would be most welcome.

    Many Thanks
    Jim

Hi Jim - welcome to the fold. If you can't enrol for lessons, is there perhaps a woodturning club near you? They are usually a good source of information and guidance

+1 for what Phil says look for a club or if you can find a turner near you who is prepared to show you the basics.

By the way, welcome to the forum and as Flexi (Mark ) said no question is silly.
