Hi, Happy new year to you all, My name is John and I am new to pen turning, I still have to turn my first one ( any advice will be welcome ). I am a 67 year old ex squaddie and I am waiting for my lathe to come (can't wait to get started). I hope to learn a lot about pen turning ( This site looks like the first place for it ),and maybe sell some (in time).

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, Joseph.
You will get good advice re pen making, and turning.
Put photographs of your pens up when you get started and you will get photographic advice as well if you want.
Enjoy your new hobby.

Hi Joseph
I'm not too far from you just north of Morpeth. I have quite a few spare pen blanks if you want to practice some turning before spending money, nothing exciting mostly plain grained but oak and mahogany which can still make nice pens, I'm just a lot more selective these days because I don't make many.

I'll send you a pm

Bob

Hi John ,Joseph when I was your age eighteen yrs ago there were so many demands on my time, new experiences etc. May you have fun and take Bob up on his offer he is a beaut bloke. Welcome from over here. My Army days were in the 1954 plus yrs,I was severely tempted to go full time but chose to marry my 3 yr then sweetheart a decision I have never had cause to regret.

Peter.
