I know this has been discussed before, and once you have bought a kit you can call it what you like!

I normally just call them by their original name, whether it be Slimline, Streamline, Baron, Zeta, or Omega.

I now have a slight problem with the name Omega! (Sorry Dan)

I have an independent Jewellers outside York, who are interested in stocking my pens.

They stock Omega watches and I want to pre empt any confusion over branding.

Any ideas for a name?

I wouldn't go for The Ratner, but The Minster could be a goer.

Go for something on the same theme, Promega, Zega. A name should reflect intelligence, ingenuity, elegance, and be fairly neutral in terms of race religon sex etc so as to avoid reduciing its appeal to particular elements of society, so calling it the Mecca might not be the brightest thing you do in 2015!

Naming them after areas or town doesnt do it for me, you are trying to create a brand by giving it a pretentious name and the likes of Uxbridge, Stevenage, Birmingham, Hounslow West and Luton conjure up the idea of a damned good curry. York is synonymous with stone (and McDonalds), but perhaps thats because Im from the construction industry.

There is already some one in York who names his pens Minster Peter. He joined here and people were soooo impressed with his sales technique.:whistling:

Thanks Neil.
I like the idea of Promega.
Just have to google it now to make sure there are no connotations! :fingers:

Neil and Dan I solved my dilemma with naming as pronounced by distributers with my motor cars when I got home I removed every last sticker ad number plate surrounds etc When I needed service i referred to the year model etc always courteous when asked about the vehicle but it was my purchase, my money after all not made by any one person a concept if you like. Names in penmaking are important at the first point of sale IMHO ie to you. A style or method used call or name a product made by you becomes your choice if you want a contra deal then one to one with the supplier very personal. Often I see in Parliament and hear what is called a Dorathy Dix question ie one to which the answer is already known given as a question to promote a cause.

When you choose which way to go I look forward to the distinctive Neil style such as your tortured bowls that have become your trademark after all you created them. I questioned the last one you made you answered with the explanation folks love em thyis way so with your Omega kit purchase choose to make it what you will.

Call em what you like, they can't hear you, My wood pens are called Fred and the plastic ones are called crap.
I take Neil's advise as being the one to go for or do the same as Messrs Wilsdorf and Davies when they named the Rolex company.
Sit with all the letters of the alphabet and jumble them up, then make a word up that looks attractive to the eye and fits easily in the space available.
A totally new word that doesn't exist or mean anything but has become a household name.
Ear yar, NIBTAL.

My two penneth for what its worth is this, which is based on my experience, because ALL my pens are renamed. If you are renaming once through necessity, there is a good chance you will have to (or want to) do it again in the future. Therefore, my advice is to come up with a theme, and just the same way as Dan has with the kits themselves. Roman gods, volcanos, grape varieties, ....anything, as long as they give an air or quality and are not silly of give the wrong message. That way, when you need to come up with the next name, you haven't got to wrack your brains thinking up something original, and two different pens side by side in the same shop will have some sort of continuity of branding as far as naming is concerned.
