I just use the AWGB insurance... cheap as chips. The club is an associated member and if its documented in the minutes that you're doing a show then you're covered. That doesn't include product insurance though which I think would be very expensive.

Be careful of AWGB insurance, it normally only covers you on club active duty
Product liability insurance is not that expensive and you should get it, even if you are turning items to a predetermined design such as a pen. If you turned a letter opener and put on beads, and other detailing that someone manage to rupture their rectum on you could be liable
my insurance covers PLI, products and equipment used for the production of goods for sale (probably not covered in your household policy!) all for £135pa

GM Imber are one company I used for a while, currently insured on a Business From Home policy from NIG via Saffron Insurance Services.

Thanks Neil, we did ask the AWGB and if its minuted then individuals are covered as club activity.

If they want you there they can insure you, that's all I did when I did a gig at the community center.
Told them I don't got no insurance I don't gonna get any and don't care if I do their thing or not.
They soon come back and told me I was insured by them.

Right......confession time......I work in insurance.....Unfortunately - don't hate me :rolling:

I used to be a forester/tree surgeon until I was sidelined by injury and had to find an office job to pay the bills.

I haven't got Public/Products Liability myself at the moment as I'm not really making any pens in bulk to sell. But with my insurance hat on, my observations would be this:

There are good cheap schemes on the internets for crafters, but you need to look at the small print.

Many insurers exclude products imported from China/Far East. So if any pen parts come from there, your insurance might not pay a claim.

Many insurers also exclude PL cover for sales to North America (due to litigation costs) So if you do have internet sales to the US or Canada its worth checking the policy to make sure its covered.

A lot of policies will want to see that you know your suppliers and that that have insurance themselves. This is so they can subrogate against them if there's a claim - i.e. say a food safe oil or finish wasn't and caused a reaction. Your insurers may pay but then try and claim back costs from the makers of the oil.

It's a grubby business and I'm looking for alternative sources of employment........but in the meantime, make sure you read your policies thoroughly - I know it's really boring, but not as bad as finding out you've paid good money for something that doesn't then cover/protect you.
