I've tried it but the results werent that good. Reason being that the finish of the food, for obvious reasons has to be finished before the blank is immersed. A finish of around 240 grit was about right, any smoother and the surface tension didnt hold the paint properly and any rougher and you ended up with a finish that was as rough as a bears arse. However the problem was that the immersion raised the grain. As you immersed the blank it raised the grain, bears arse again.

The other thing that happened that as the pattern covered the blank it had to wrap around the blank so you ended up with a sort of stocking seam up the blank which didnt look great. I am sure that someone could develop the technique to get staisfactry results but I 'm afraid I got bored. If I can find the blank which is somewhere here on my desk, ill post a pic.

Showed that vid to family last night our daughter from the US said there are infinite ways to do this they were both impresses at the repeatability aspect.
