Some 6 or 7 years ago I was given this log
It came from a house I was putting some furniture into(I am a furniture maker) and working on in London
The house had been used as architects offices and they had removed a wall to open up a space and used this to
Support the upper floor!
Architects eh!
About 3 foot of it is missing
So it has sat in my workshop and with my renewed interest in turning, particularly pens
I think its time has come
Every time I walk passed it I wonder how many pen blanks it would make!!! Rather like guessing the number of sweets in a jar
So what do think bowl blanks pen blanks spindle blanks or a mixture?
It is 14``X 80`` approx

Yew can tell near to very little Peter except it looks good from the outside a cross cut pic would reveal more. The mystery deepens.

If you cut it into pen blanks you will regret it later on. Cut some into bowl blanks some into large spindle blanks(for vases hollow forms) and then cut all the little left overs which are pen size into pen blanks. Or just cut off bits as needed.

Better still send it to me:wink::funny::funny::funny:

To cut that Beauty into pen blanks would be sacrilege but there again you could supply all of the forum members with a load .
Bowls, Vases anything you want comes to mind, the offcuts will provide you with more than enough pen blanks

Thanks for interest
Hope to convert later this year will keep you informed
It's quite a large regular log, especially for yew
Must have been a mighty tree
It's been felled at least twenty years
It should produce a lot of useful turning wood
I must say you are all very generous and kind people, who are prepared to take it off
my hands, especially with me delivering it!!

Peter
