The internet speeds in the villages where I live used to be so poor that we got together, formed a community project and built our own. We now have the fastest broadband in the country, 1Gig! Www.b4rn.org
Of course once we had built it along came BT and brought their version into the village as well using public money. Not sure who they think they are kidding since it is only 30 Meg. So much for wise use of public money, they could have better spent it in the Peak District.
What is does show is the power of working together using volunteers, it is a great project take a look at the website. Only downside is I don't get so much time turning wood as I am turning earth. ( digging!)
