spalted beech

evening guys
After a bit of advice, I've got this 14" x 4" spalted beech blank and want to turn it into a fruit bowl which will eventually be sold to the public, is this wood ok to use for a fruit bowl? also with regards to the finish I will be using microcrystalline wax on the outside, would I be able to use the same finish on the inside? or would I be better using a food safe oil?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I have made loads of fruit / salad bowls out of spalted beech in fact we have been using one for about 12 years I always finish mine with no less than 6 coats of teak oil and in all my years as a turner have never had one complaint or problem but there are some woodturners who would say never use spalted wood I have to ask why and I have never been given any valid reason just theary in fact I have a peice on the lathe ready to turn tomorrow

General finishes do a butchers block oil which I use. There is debate about using psalter timber but if you use an oil finish you will be sealing the timber.

The debate would be endless to and fro make your own decision is best. I agree with Woody though full sealing best for me.

Reason for saying this yesterday talking with an expert firm who also sell top shelf finishes the lady said her Dad was a real mean man and ended up sick as a dog. After weeks of worry the raced him into hospital, turned out he was using CA glue every day to glue his broken false teeth together, the diagnosis Cyanide poisoning.

I find that hard to believe, Ca glue is used by the military on a daily basis and even though it is a different grade than we use in pen turning, I just don't believe cyanide poisoning can be attributed to CA glue. I will be quite happy to be proven wrong, however.

CA glue is use in hospitals instead of sutures.

How much Cyanide is absorbed through your skin while applying CA finishes?
If this was true there must be a lot of sick pen turners running around.

I find the fumes from ca to be very toxic and they do make me feel quite unwell my throat closes up and my chest hurts breathing becomes very labourd perhaps seeing as the glue was being put in his mouth he ended up breathing in fresh fumes every day just a thought some people are quite tolerant to ca some quite susceptible to it
