I thought it was robinia to start with, which is why I asked if it grew in the UK. But actually, robinia has a contrast between heartwood and sapwood, so I'm going with pau amerello too. The person we really need though is [MENTION=216]lignaterrae[/MENTION]

It would be most unusual to say the least for Pau Amarello to come into the country as round billets, it is normally imported sawn dimension-timber.
What is the size of these lumps? The bark in the first picture looks very like boxwood as does the wood itself, especially with those internal black marks...

It came as one piece approx 11" x 7"
