Hi all
This is my patch of ground for my new shed to go

It is aprox 16x9so I'm thinking a 10x8 shed that will give me 6 feet in front of the door of open space where
in the summer I can do things out side when the sun is out.
If I put my lathe on a mobile unit I can wheel it out side ??
Do you know if this is possible to do with a small lathe
The door will be on the side of the shed
Thanking you all
Chris

I've had several sheds at different properties over the years and there's a huge difference between a 12' x 10' shed and a 10' x 8'. Can you not squeeze a bit more space?

Ok I've been down the garden today doing a bit and for me to keep up the maintenance on the shed it will have to be a 10x7.
I know this is small but we have a lot,and I mean a LOT of rain up in the north of Wales.:funny:
I live in the mountains in a small town called Blaenau Ffestiniog and for those that have passed through I bet it was raining
so I have to get round the shed to keep painting it.
If I make it 12x7 the end will be up against next doors shed:sob: then it will stay damp all the time.

I have all my stuff in 10' x 7', it's tight but I manage. Like me you'll start on a postage stamp & end up on the Queen's head.

It could be worth while using that 6 feet in front as extra space for the shed, sounds like the rain falls mainly any time.

You only need 12" between any building as long as there is good air flow to help keep the ends dry and you can always use a paint roller on a long handle to get to the bits you cant reach. As said bigger the better I only have a 12' X 8' I am able to mange but my bandsaw is elsewhere and wish I had a bigger one to get all of my machines in one place also a taller one as well ask Vic.
Wood storage I have in another two sheds that I have.

The problem I have there is access for the next 3 doors down from me so people
are passing my shed. they are OK neighbors but we do get the odd stray coming down the back
so I have to put some sort of gate to make it harder for access to my shed but that is how it has to be :rolling:

At the end of the day all my bushcraft things and a new lathe and tools,CB radios will all be in there,if that lot disappear
It will brake my hart.
But maybe a 12x7 at a squeeze???

Thanking you all
Chris

Could you not clad the areas that you wouldn't have access to with pvc cladding? That way it would be waterproof & maintenance free! The stuff I have in mind is pretty cheap as well.

The stuff that I was thinking of are called hollow sofit boards, but I'm sure it would work ok as cladding if installed correctly, failing that there is the proper dedicated pvc cladding but that pretty costly

For myself, I think I would sacrifice the open air aspect at the front in favour of more enclosed storage. You've said yourself that it mainly rains, so in fact your outdoor turning will be infrequent - we're not exactly unused to a drop of rain here in the the Highlands too - so if it were me I think I'd be going for more space inside and less outside. I appreciate what you are saying about the need for all round access for maintenance, which is fair enough, but I can't help feeling that the al fresco area would be better re-purposed.

I'm on nights for two nights now so when I get up on Thursday I will draw a pic with the size of ground I've got to work
with and you can see what I've got.the door has to face north east so no rain blows in it

Thanking you all

You can never have enough space and always want more .. but if organised and have decent storage it will work.. I am currently working out of 8x6 shed..
