Can anyone recommend a brand of Waterslide Decal film suitable for laser printers? It seems that lots of people have real problems with heat and the print sticking to the drum even though the specs say it's meant for laser printers.

Hi Derek, I use Mr. Decal Paper (MDP) from EBay 10 sheets of laser clear for about £9. I always place my water slides on very light wood, usually Pine, they look so much better. IMHO.

Thanks for that, do you cover yours with CA and do you need some kind of fixative to stop smear? Sorry about all the questions.

Hi Derek, yes and yes, once the decals are dry I put two or three coats of a clear water based varnish over the blanks. When everything is dry I take it back to the lathe and apply five coats of medium CA, then the next day I micro mesh and polish.
Backing up a bit...I apply the decals over two coats of thin CA.

Hi John, thanks for that, very informative and based on what you said Mr. Decal will be getting another order. I'll let you know what a pigs ear I make of it :)

Hi Derek, just remember to cut the decals as close as you can leaving the smallest border you can, as I've said, the lighter the wood the more the decals stand out and the more the border disappears.

Paper yes you can. The problem comes with the type of transparency you use. Laser printers usually use heat to "fix" the image and some transparency can melt. Just check that they are OK for your printer.

So Dave, why not just get the paper that is specifically made for either inkjet or laser, why would you need to "just check?"

Hi John.
Most plain paper can be used on either ink or laser printers. The difference comes when you want "quality' prints like photos when using an inkjet.
The check was about the decals or transparencies. I've had to clear many shrivelled transparencies from printers in the dim and distance past.

I used to use inkjet, but you have to spray the images with a couple of coats of sealer as you know Dave. So I get the boys from The print room to do My printing for Me on their lasers. I just supply the paper...sorted.
