What's happened to all the pens guys and girls?

Over 1700 members - about 100 of us on average logging in each day - roughly 3 or 4 times that number browsing the forum without logging on. Lots of great discussions about tools and techniques, but where are all the pens? Have we all given up?

People with less experience than others can sometimes feel daunted if they think their early work is going to be scrutinised by critical eyes. There is no need. I can think of countless times when old lags have been able to take something new away from a relative newcomer to our craft, so please don't feel shy or intimidated - we all would love to see your work.

And old hands too. What have you been up to in the workshop? Lets's see some of your latest offerings.

Come on gang - let's see some more pens on the forum.

Ive got to apologise for not posting anything lately. I have done a fair bit of turning but not been able to get to my light set up for pictures. My son is staying with us at the moment pending moving into his new house. The spare bedroom where my photo gear is set up is crammed to the rafters with his stuff. I can't start to explain how crammed my garage and one work shed is. Hopefully he should be moving into his new house by Christmas and me and our Aud can start getting back to normal :sob:

Tomorrow is our Timber and Wood Show the annual exhibition of my Woodcraft Guild. I went to the monthly meeting last night and our guild shed has undergone extensions from 20 metres by 15 metres to two and a half times what it was. The lathe room has 10 Vicmark Lathes now. Being a Steward at the show tomorrow. Sussed out a new set of imperial drills, new name for me with 10 times the life of my favourite drills in 1/16 increments waiting for me to collect.

None from me at the moment I do have two of your click pens to make [MENTION=1110]Phil[/MENTION]

I have been painting my nut crackers then airbrush broke it has just this minute drop through the letter box as well as a security camera system which I need to put up so shed time has been limited did not want to put everything away to turn something and also cause loads of dust.

Hopefully by the weekend will get around to some turning.

I have been concentrating on making my Serpentine blanks. Processing about 1500 board feet of lumber into wig stand kits for my turning clubs community service activity. Getting the yard and veggie gardens ready for winter. Raking leaves in my elder neighbor and my yard.

66 degrees today as a high. Hoping to get another motorcycle ride before the bottom drops out.

One in gunmetal and chrome with a corian body.
One in all black with an ebonite body.

With my day job being a gardener, then keeping up with the mould orders etc, not forgetting family stuff, I haven’t had much time for Pen Turning apart from a few commissions which I did post pictures of.
With winter coming up the gardening will be soon dying off, so I should have a bit more time for some more Pen Turning :banana:

Been meaning to post this for a while, Phil's post has prompted me!

It's odd how you can get a passion for a particular material or kit and you never tire of them.

For me Buckeye Burr (it's a burr as soon as it crosses The Atlantic and not a Burl) fits the bill.
It has such a complex grain and range of colours, that make it fascinating to work.

This example is a Baron kit

Phil - unfortunately I’ve been too busy with work and family and experimenting with hollowing natural edge forms to get into the garage for pens. Hoping to spend some time in November as I need to make some pens for Christmas! I’ll pop them on here if I get the chance to still enjoying everyone else’s efforts though.

This thread here will soon naturally disappear into the darkness, but people enjoy searching through the finished pens forums time and again.

Life gets in the way of things for many of us all too often. Keep the faith and lets all hope to enjoy our precious time in the workshop when circumstances allow.

Hi Derek,
The blank is one of Vinces....Turners Workshop....he does them in bundles usualy on flee bay or you can get direct....:ciggrin:
