Well I have been planning on getting a new 2nd router for several months as having one plunge router doing the boxes has been a pain and really slows the job down.

So after much deliberation and seeing one in action I decided to go for the Makita 18v battery powered one as I already have a jig saw, rip saw, planer, drill and impact wrench so would sit nicely with my other 18v kit.

Wow, I'm not disappointed with it either. Delivered this morning and straight in the cave for a play.

Really is a nice machine and so much better not having trailing cables around to either cut through with the router or trip over. :goesred:

Check it out here.. Makita UK

There are a few you tube videos on them as well.

Happy times.. :banana::banana:

Reading a little is it the finishing,brushless Router with a soft start and variable speed, a light etc. Over here very expensive mate, I see you have overcome your money problems with this one. I use the normal one and found it throws air through the top out the bottom at great speed making dust collection very difficult as well as visioning the job. I made a deflector that diverts the cooling air away from the job horizontally.What are the specs,cost mate.Where does the battery fit.

I bought the Makita 700CX2 kit with a systainer box a few years ago and I love it. I don't think the cordless machine was available then but as my other cordless tools are mainly DeWalt I probably wouldn't have bought that anyway.
It's so light and easy to use with one hand and still powerful, I don't think you'll regret the purchase Eammon.:thumbs:

Nice bit of kit I have a few routers but I am going the opposite direction than you Eamonn. I have just ordered eye bolts and brass threaded things to make a router plane I blame it all on Paul Sellars and long winter nights on utube in my retirement :rolling:

MAKITA 18V Cordless Compact Router XTR01Z - YouTube

Link above to you tube, there is loads on there to look at.

I also put the link on the original thread to Makita website for the spec.

You are right Bob, Lons. Superb piece of kit and well balanced, used it in anger today and really impressed how long the battery lasts as well.

WE are always remarking on the high costs it was a flippant remark in good fun. You did not address my other questions but thanks for the pic with battery attached. The unit gets a big rap, I have used an older version and a newer for many moons now happily. For myself Routers demand great respect in use, brushless would be a new experience for me,soft start a wonderful thing on any applience. Noise from Routers general caused by the high speeds in the past has also happily been taken care of. The air movement needed to cool is of vital interest to me.
