What I saw was coincidence and the 75 pound discount only leaving 400 pounds, the you beaut one piece pen with a great timber body, easy to hold and use compared with the heavier skinnier hard to hold sterling silver pen with all the attendant needs of sterling silver with regard to keeping it shining unless they have a magic coating. Or is observing a no no.

Makes a change from all the adult dating sites that seem to pop up everywhere on this forum. I wish we could stop those!

The ads that pop up go a small way, but by no means anywhere near the cost of running the forum. The content of the actual ads themselves are mainly driven by your own internet browsing patterns, because big brother is watching everywhere you go these days, and your computer will be full of tracking cookies. Therefore the ads an individual sees will be different to the ads the next person sees. On the other hand, if Google can't quite make you out, or if they can't throw an ad at you that matches your browsing pattern, it will often be a generic one such as dating sites and so on - unless you routinely browse dating sites of course, in which case, well, you'll get dating site adverts.

The ads are a part of the forum software, but you can tame them to a certain extent by obtaining and regularly using some good anti-malware software, which amongst other things will identify and remove the tracking cookies on your computer.

Google ads, and others, reflect your browsing history and Google searches.

Those tracking cookies that your browser stores are in on it too.

What appears on your screen will not be the same as what appears on mine. I got Trainline this morning after buying rail tickets online on Monday.

Not sure what that says about Allen's browsing habits though. :whistling:

Targeted advertising: what does it know about you?

I’ve seen those as well, but only on this forum. What does that say about the forum owner ...

This is the current ad I keep seeing on here, seen it for a couple of weeks now:

I don't know how much a forum costs to run and I have a Huge appreciation for the people like yourself that put in many, many hours of time that a lot of people won't realise because it's behind the scenes, so to speak. I'm on only one other forum and it's fishing. This advert debate was done to death over several weeks. I am a newbie still but really applaud the members here for the information sharing and general good will towards others. However, getting back to cost, I'd be happy to pay the forum, to NOT have adverts popping up, every time I clicked on something.

Kind regards

Craig

When the previous owner Jim owned the site he recommended we use adblock a free program that removes the ads, mine works all the time all over but as Phil said on this posting some sites require Cookies (some sites require temp removal of this block) as they depend on cookies. For example I just went to Adblock there is a column of control it can be paused etc and for example two ads on this reply were prevented.

Havent had any of them for a long time but used to make me laugh.

A gorgeous, well built bird that want to meet me, only lives 5 miles from me.
5 miles from me in every direction is bush, only 1500 white people in town none look like that.
So I guess they live under a bush in 40°C plus and 99 percent humidity.
I reckon her make up would melt.:funny::funny::funny:

Not quite as simple as it is suggested here. I never visit any kind of dating site whatsoever. I don’t gamble either but I still get the ad about being a winner. The problem with ad blocker is that I use various password protection programmes on a mac. They are very useful and save having to remember loads of separate passwords however they don’t seem compatible with Ad Blocker. I think I read the other day that Google Chrome is going to block by default but whether that will help if one uses a password programme I don’t know.
I have no real worry about getting ads from Axminster, Beaufort and I understand the need for these to fund the site, I just wish one could block certain classes of ad.
If I remember correctly at one time on this site one could flag an ad as inappropriate. Of course that may be why I now see these dating sites because I once flagged them as inappropriate! Oh well rant over.

I re-visited the ad settings yesterday and tweaked them a wee bit within the limitations of what it will allow. Hopefully the dating sites and get rich quick stuff and some other inappropriate categories will no longer appear.

Beaufort Ink doesn't do Google Ads by the way. This is a Pen Turners forum, and unlike some facebook pages which are clearly just self-serving, this is not a forum for any particular supplier or manufacturer, all of whom are allowed the same opportunities here on equal terms. The only place an ad appears for Beaufort Ink, other than within my personal profile settings and within it's own seller forum, for which it pays just the same as any other supplier, is on the Pen of the Week slot on the home page, which Beaufort Ink sponsors.
