Hi all

Been quiet on here for a while - moved from Sussex to Cornwall in December - lathe boxed up in October! Only just managed to unbox it, build a stand and sort garage out to make it suitable for turning...

First use of the lathe today after it was boxed up nearly 5 months ago! Just a design idea in progress... a scrap piece of cherry.. was great to practice different cuts etc.. not aiming for a perfect piece - just glad to be back on the lathe! Plenty of tear out and tool marks - but I learned a lot in the process.... was pleased I remembered which end of the gouge to hold!

Welcome back to the coal face Steve. A trio of nested bowls is quite a way to kick off with. Hope you've settled in to your new home. (your profile is still saying Sussex by the way)

Thanks Phil!

Will change profile now...

It’s a single piece of cherry giving the illusion of nested bowls... took me a while to remember to present the pointy end towards the spinning wood!

You've given the game away Steve. Your kudos for nested bowls was sky high a few minutes ago. It's not too late to edit your post:whistling:

Steve, it looks lovely, certainly not a scrap piece of wood. It also strikes me as a very good practice idea, I may shamelessly pinch it.

I bet it feels great just to be able to turn again after all the hassles of the move. Now get and turn a few pens ( listen to me I can't talk don't make that many but need to soon)
