How many of you make razors either for yourselves or for sale.

What do you use for the handles do you stick to acrylic type blanks or have you used wood.

If you use wood what finish do you use as it comes into contact with water on a daily basis (well that is if you shave everyday).

I have tended to stick with acrylic on both Razors and brushes although i did dabble with tigerwood ply...:thinks:20131026_085103.jpg

I've only done one, I used olive wood. I was advised to give plenty of coats of sanding sealer, then finish with CA. Don't know if this is right or not but the handle is showing no water ingress.

It you use timber raise the grain with a damp cloth then sand back. The grain won’t raise again if it gets damp.
Treatex hard oil wax is a waterproof finish which should do the job. Mark Ruby used to have a timber vase finished in Treatex hard oil finish full of water to show how good it was. It is also alcohol & wine stain resistant.
Hope this helps Derek.

I’ve just made a Less Resin Mould for razor handles, as a customer wanted to label cast razor handles! I’m not too sure how successful label cast razors will be though unless he can seal the ends well after turning.
