Dust/Shavings Extractor

I am looking to buy a small extractor about 50lt mainly for sawdust shavings extraction, my main concern is noise the garage wall is not very soundproof, I would be grateful for any recommendations.

Please bear in mind depending on your turning technique you may not collect the shavings this way but with placement you can get the majority of the dust,the problem is pronounced using the carbide tipped chisels. Always give consideration for an overhead extraction as well. Good luck with the noise factor I wear hearing protection.

Hi Robin,

The problem with extractors is the exhaust noise which is the combination of the rush of air and accompanying motor noise. You can overcome this by attaching a pipe on the exhaust and placing the other end away from you in an other part of the workshop which cuts out about half the noise or pipe the exhaust outside which will make the workshop quite however during the winter all you will be doing is sucking the nice warm air you have paid electricity for and pumping it outside not a very efficient method. I was thinking of some thing like the one Bob linked to, I have seen it where the exhaust pipe was put into a box also lined with faom as in the pipe and this was hidden under a bench so that the exhaust warm air is pumped low down helping with keeping the heat in and for the summer an extra hose pointing outside
