I had a ride over to see Ray a couple of days back to collect some tools from him. I had the pleasure of a guided tour of his new home, that being his long awaited canal barge. Moored in some fantastic surroundings his boat "Top Cat" is stunning ! Every mod con that you can think about and so spacious.

You and your wife have worked long and hard Ray to achieve this goal and now it has come into fruition I am sure that you both will enjoy your new way of life.

Many thanks for your hospitality and don't forget when you are on your travels along the Trent and Mersey to call in for a chat.

Looks a lovely boat Ray. Will keep my eyes open for you when we next get a hire boat out on the Trent and Mersey.

Nooooo! Avoid the hire boats Ray.

There's a sound reason why Hoeseasons puts a swallow on the front. It's so every other bugger knows to go the other way. It is the sworn task of the holiday boat hirer to terrorise the legitimate boat owner at all times.

I've hired boats. I know!! Mwahahahaha:devil:

Yes Phil we’ve seen some things when we’ve been on hire boats and day boat hirers are even worse. It’s the stag parties that are the worst

Yes say hello

Where do you hire from?
Last time on the Trent and Mersey we hired from Sawley ( near Long Eaton) and then took the boat up to Fradley Junction. Our last trip was on the Llangollen Canal and then we hired from somewhere around Whitchurch if I remember correctly. Not all hire boats are poor ‘drivers’ I assure you but I can agree about stag parties! Enjoy cruising.
