The best way is "Be prepared".
Our club did a pen night for some 30 young scouts.
They got hands on practice on wood turning, then went onto the lathe to finish prepared slimline blanks.
Some turning and sanding with different finishes, then assembley.
The club managed to send home happy scouts and their leaders with finished pens. All in 2 hours.
We were "cream crackered" but enjoyed the night.

I recall this debate at an AGM trying to get younger people to try Woodturning but there was a debate about what was required and it was turned down ...shame really it would be good to get younger involved I wish I had tried this at a much younger age.

“Pro Turner” if only that was true!

Why burn it when you can turn it ....

I will be preparing a number of tubes by glueing them in blanks as I will not have time to do that part of the operation on the evening as well as those that wish to have a go

    Buy bandages. Lots of bandages.

Good luck. That sounds like fun. If your students can get a taste, you may have a new penturners' club on your hands!

The demo does not worry me at all it was the fact that I don't turn many pens now but I always get asked questions as many in our club know my abilities in many forms of turning.

I think I should start a skills meeting and get some of the other members involved who have knowledge in certain field of turning.
