    Lndon Plane Blanks

Came across some wood called London Plane, I had never heard of it before but then I don't really know much about wood species anyway lol
Hoping these will produce some interesting looking pens, crosscut as usual lol
Has anyone machined this wood before ? A google search gave me some more details about it & i think it should be fine.

Yes and results have been good. It can have a pink colour to it as well.

    Hello Martin,

I have a few blanks of London Plane. They drill and turn well and have good figure when finished and polished. The ones that I have turned have a pleasant shimmer.

    Cheers

It reminds me of a close resemblance to Silky Oak.

    Hi Martin,

a pen I turned in 2016. Made from cross cut London plane. Turns good and polishes well, it will mellow in time to a golden tone.
Good luck a very fine wood.

Thanks for the replies, not sure when I will get round to turning these as I have quite a bit of work to do at the moment. Mind you quite a bit of that is CNC machining brass & I have the wood lathe set up next to the CNC so I can do some turning while the CNC is running so you never know lol

Just looking at those pen pictures again, I have some elm pens that look very much like that, in fact if you hadn't said it was cross cut London Plane I would have thought it was Elm.
