Well it looks like I'm going to be laid up again. After seeing the Consultant earlier this week he has decided to completely remove the knee joint that I had replaced 10 years ago and fit another one. He hopes to get me in some time in March so I will need to get my finger out and get a few jobs knocked off the big list I have. ?

Cheers Derek, it's only been 6 months since I had the other one done and that seems to be going ok. This one apparently is a bit more of a complicated procedure and a longer recovery period. I managed to get seen by one of the U.K. Leading specialists for this one so hopefully it will go better this time :praying:

Good luck Vic.
Hope it goes well for you.
Keep popping in here, you just need a finger working for this, plus your brain.

Chin up mate go well. Important decision like your choice of Surgeons.

Peter.

Cheers Peter, Had to wait a while to get to see this Surgeon but within a few minutes of looking at the X-rays he had done he spotted the issues with the old replacement along with a couple of others that I was not aware of. The hospital is a bit of a jaunt to us (120 mile round trip) but I should imagine that's just like nipping to the shop for you folk down under. :thinks:

I hope all goes well Vic, it seems bizarre that a replacement knee has to be replaced, I thought a replacement was for life... :thinks:i:thinks:

They normally last 15 years plus John but this one has never been right since it was put in 10 years ago and even further attempts to correct it failed. If you get a chance have a look at the YouTube video on Knee Revision Operation :sob:

Wishing you all the best Vic, hoping you will be back in front of your lathe in no time.:pray:
Like John I thought knee replacements lasted a life time.

The replacements are getting better and better with regards to their lifespan Mark. If this one goes to plan it should last me until I'm well into my Nineties :funny:

My wife had a full knee replacement including the knee cap four months ago. She has made a full recovery and walks for miles without any issues.

Good luck Vic. Hopefully the advances in technology will prove themselves and you will be skipping about like a spring lamb in no time.

Most replacements go without a hitch Dave and I'm pleased to see that your wife is doing well. My right knee was replaced 10 years ago and has been problematic ever since. Despite having further surgery to try and correct the problem it actually made matters worse. I had my left knee replaced 6 month ago and it seems to be doing ok but I can't put any mileage into it because of the issues with my right one. I managed to get to see one of the U.K. Leading Knee Revision Speacialists and he is going to strip the old replacement out and replace it with a much more modern prosthesis. The success rate in initial Knee replacement is around 90% I unfortunately was one of the 10% who emcountered problems. Hopefully this time around he can sort it although on Revision Ops the success rate is not so high.
