Rather than hi jacking The thread of Terry's I thought it be best to start another thread and let's open it up to whoever has the experience.

My experience is that I have only been allowed to supply recognised ink suppliers and it has only been a fountain pen to sign the important bit of paper.

Either that or they have supplied the ink and I have filled the pen in front of the registra.

There is an ISO standard ISO 12757-2.

I was given this link today of the list of available refills to that standard

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ballpointpenart/conversations/topics/243
..

However, it appears after much research that even the Ecclesiastical out there do not fully up understand the rules, so there is no hope for us.

See this Writing Right: Recording For Posterity | The Vicar's Wife

After discussions I have had in my local area and supplied pens for the special occasion I have had to use this ink.

Ecclesiastical Stationery Supplies Registrars Ink Blue-Black With Iron-Gall

The local registrars office I had contacted previously also advised the above ink.

I also understand that the art work tend to want this type of ink for a obvious reasons so is driven by them quite a bit.

This is a thread for debate and open for what you have experienced it's not to say any one of us is right or wrong, just to see what experience there is out there.

Any comments or experiences of the forum members would be greatly appreciated.

I guess over the pond or down under may be different, that would be good to see and share.

Even better if we had a registrar or two..

Look forward to the replies..

So it would seem there is a ballpoint archival ink from the link you show, in which case you are teaching me something and I thank you for that.
I still find it hard to believe that anyone would want to sign the register with a ballpoint but there are all sorts of peasants in this world init?
I would not be the one to make such a gift even for peasants?
A rollerball on the other hand can be classy and much more practical for everyday use after the signing so I could be up for that suggestion.
Neil did a good write up on the subject and I have been a believer of that until now

I wonder if this thread will shed any different light.
Thanks for bringing the subject to debate Eamonn.

Great information.

I've made two wedding pens and on both occasions have badgered the bride (and even doubled checked myself for one) that it was OK to use a custom fountain pen with registrar's ink to sign the register.

The ink I used is this one, and on both occasions has been identical to the bottle kept by the church in question.

When I was researching for the first pen I was told by the registrar's office in Cardiff that the pen had to be a fountain pen and use registrar's ink.

So, I'm really just confirming what's bee said, and will continue to give the same advice for the few inquiries I've got for other weddings!

I had a look at that thread earlier, and that still stands and is good information.

Thanks Gav, I had seen that ink myself but as the vicar wanted the type I linked too that was what I used by them.

So couldn't link to that as I had not seen or know of anyone advised to use it until now.

I never knew that you had to use different ink at registry.
It would be interesting to see if you have a similar rule though Mark.

Thanks for the replies and look forward to more to come.
