Hi all - this might be fun. Purely based on your own sense of pride in a particular item you made during 2014, post a pic (or pics) of THE BEST item you produced this year. Comments welcome but keep them positive please, this is not an opportunity to compare one person's work with another's, just a chance to celebrate our year in wood turning.

Only one item per person please. Also tell us why you think this is your best.

That has turned out to be a lovely pen David.

My achievement of the year is designing and cutting my own pen stands on my cnc machine for which I impressed myself because they are the right angle for the light and hold the pens very nicely. I've used them at several shows and have been told that my display is good by several people.

I know that its not particularly a fantastic achievement but learning the cnc is something new so I'm chuffed.

I changed the design from the upright ones in the individual photo to one where they're laying on their sides but I was impressed that this worked.

Probably my best achievement was this pen made from Champagne corks. I picked this because it was so hard to do and very time consuming, if you've ever tried to turn cork you'll know what I mean!Cork Pen.jpg

The achievement I'm most proud of this year, although not strictly turning, is launching the new Beaufort Ink website and products. It's been a lot of hard work, and its great to see it all finally come together. And my sincere thanks to everyone from this forum who has supported me along the way.
Phil.

I loved this then and I love it now! Wouldn't try it myself, though ... :rolling:

A lot of forum members are equally pleased that you succeeded Phil. Feedback so far has been universally positive.

They are fantastic, Paul. And I of all people know how satisfying it is to finally nail a design on the CNC mill! :bwink:

Again not turning but I definitely produced her. Nothing like a little monster to help give life direction and push you to do better and create a better life. as far as TaylotsMirfield is concerned, 2014 was the year I bit the bullet and invested in an idea I believed in.

My best pen this year is my entry for the closed end pen competition
But my second best must be my first attempt at an Acrylic cast Sierra.

I am proud of supplying a unique pen blank to other pen turners. I am approaching 500 blanks made. Still experimenting with design patterns.

Great Topic David ..

Without doubt my favourite item was the Pine Cone Pen ..

pine_cone_pen.jpg

The idea was introduced to a few members by Peter, (Buckeye) not very easy to turn, so when you got close to the finished shape everything seemed to be in slow motion afraid that the skew would be the winner .. It goes down as one of the best pens that i have made ..

I think mine was carving a new finger for my deceased mates figurine. The carving was taken back to Spain a few months ago and I know it is giving pleasure and comfort to his family.

It doesn't come close to Grumps selfless act of helping his neighbour to focus her life again though! You big softie Brian:thumbs:
