In the year 2000 the Govt opened up the road outside ours for several months,I took pics of a regular habit. I was intrigued by the countless tons of ReBar used. The dig took up most of 4 lanes of road. I wondered what Re Bar would be like to make a pen. Little did I know there are various gradings in this bar steel unbeknown I chose pieces of the tensile stuff used for long runs.

I was using a converted three jaw chuck spare one I had from my Hercus Metal Lathe (I had a threaded insert made to 1 inch ten threads to suit my lathe). By juggling I was able to centre the blanks (the outside thread is uneven on the bar material) and bored out the bar and fitted brass sleeves of the Slimline to make it conventional and easy to replace the biro when the time came.

Gave away a few to the steelies and sold a few as well.

I showed a pen on the IAP and years later (2011) Ed Brown started to market them as his own brand idea. I rang him and he offered to name the blanks of ReBar after me . I said no need but don,t claim the idea as yours. Anyway he is selling them again now.

The pens attract tradies like flies around the honey pot.

Peter.

What an excellent idea Peter, that is something you don’t see everyday. Every steelfixer should have one. :drool::drool::drool::thumbs:

Nicely :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: done mate.

Too bad that unscrupulous people have to steal, or as they say "Borrow"
others ideas.
If anything is posted on the internet these day without a patent it is
up for grabs.

Of course from the posts I have made and read the important thing is to enjoy our hobby the best way we can. The reason I belong to this forum is to share and have fun along the way. This since the 80,s now has not diminished for me. Enjoy your journeys and friendships I do.

Kind regards Peter.
