    Gilded ebonite

Something between an old portolan chart and a dreamed milky way... Or just a puddle, made of gold, silver and infinite black... Enjoy!

I began with a black ebonite rod. I wanted to use a Damascus clip I had and as I am experimenting with applying metal leaves and powders, I thought the clip would fit some silver, and the raindrop motive of this fascinating metal get me inspired for the pattern drawn on the pen. I inserted some mother-of-pearl dots as raindrops, then I applied a leaf of silver, another one of 23K grey gold to get the large metallic line. Finer lines are silver powder applied with a brush. I thought a touch of yellow gold would warm up this black-and-white pen, so I added a gold line, and a light cloud of gold powder covering the whole pattern (see 1st pic, just under the clip).
I managed to turn two Damascus finials from some leftovers... Then lacquer finish. I also turned a mother-of-pearl cabochon for the clip.

Thank you for your critics and comments.

I am thinking Japanese and Chinese old Master influences and digressions Pierre ,I applaud the departures from the normal and the simplicity of the black background.Insetting that marvellous ,imposing clip dignified the top of the pen with what I consider the first Damascus styling in a clip I remember.Long time between pens but man when you make them they are worth waiting for.

You are an ornament to this forum and thank you for the most striking and dignified of pens Pierre.
